I am very excited to share this great news with you: starting February I will actively focus on my career as an independent artist. This was a big step and change for me, one which I have been pondering over for quite a bit now. So I am very proud to announce that I have finally decided to take the leap and become a freelance graphic designer.
Over the past year the feeling that I wanted to do more than just web design and development grew stronger and stronger. I kept shoving this feeling aside at first, thinking I should be focusing on this in a few years when I’m done with my part-time study at school. Several strong motivations eventually made me reconsider that thought. So after breaking my head over it some more I thought: “If this is what I want to do, what I love doing, then why wait?”
I took in some great advice and decided to go freelancing without quitting my job at Footsteps. It’s been 4½ years now since I started working at Footsteps as a web designer and I still enjoy working there. So during the daytime which isn’t filled with freelance projects I will still be doing web design services at Footsteps.
As an independent artist I will differentiate and focus myself on providing other services. Mainly because I want to expand my focus on different forms of art and design, but also because I obviously cannot go into competition with my employer. So as a freelancer I will be available for other graphic design services. Primarily/ideally I will be doing album art, CD design, poster design and promo-flyer design. But I am available for other printed materials as well, so basically I will be doing graphic design in general. Over the next few weeks I will be making some changes to my website to sort everything out and highlight my services and all that. It all boils down to the fact that, starting February, I’m available for freelance commissions.
Finalizing this post; Will this new endeavor be a success? I guess that’s the gamble I’m taking, but I’m sure time will tell. I will be working as hard as I can to making it work. It is my dream, so it’s easy to stay motivated. After all, I will be doing something that I love.
To kick off an exciting and hopefully creative new year I’m also proud to announce that I have another feature coming up in an awesome design magazine. I cannot disclose any more details of that yet, but when I can I will surely update you via Twitter or my blog. Of course I will also keep you updated on all things related to my exciting new endeavor.
