A lot of design agencies and freelancers have done work for major brands at some point in their career, brands such as: Nike, Coca-Cola, Adidas, Rabobank, Universal and so forth. More than often though I can’t figure out what it is that the person or agency has done for said client(s). In my opinion; the brand on itself isn’t that interesting, the work that is made for it is.
With that said I looked at my own list of selected clients and saw that I do not show the work I did for one of them. With this post I will correct that right now. The biggest brand I have in my list of clients is Universal Music Netherlands, though I do not show the work I did for them on my site. I listed it so I can proudly tell you that I’ve done work for them. So what have I done for them? There’s my error and I justly slapped myself in the face with the introduction paragraph of this post. Like I said: I will correct myself.
What I’ve done for Universal Music Netherlands
It was actually a couple of years ago that I’ve worked for them and it wasn't for print design either. Imagine that. It was in 2007 that I made a bunch of Dutch promotional websites for the newest albums (at that time) of Timbaland, Maroon 5, Peter and the Wolf, Ne-Yo, Hitzone and LangLang. Fortunately I managed to find old screenshots of some of those sites, so here’s what I made back then:
Working for a brand such as Universal Music Netherlands is quite an experience. The thing I loved most about it was the ability to create something for the artists in question, which was huge for me. Also, the provided photographs we’re absolutely stunning.
As you often hear: knowing the right people certainly helps. A few of my recent projects come directly from people who used to work at Universal during the time that I worked on the above websites, which is absolutely fantastic. Find the right people, do awesome work for them in a likeable fashion and you’ll be doing the stuff you like for brands you like. Make it happen.
