When I worked on this post I ended up writing about the music section of my blog to start with. That ‘starting text’ turned out to be quite large, so much in fact that I decided to just post it online as a whole item. So following up on that earlier post here’s a new blog item about another one of my favorite bands, namely: Gazpacho.
A couple of years ago I was introduced to this fantastic band by my girlfriend’s father. Like with any truly great music it took me a couple of listens to actually start appreciating it. Nowadays it’s, as I said, one of my favorite bands. I’m not a big fan of stating genres, because I don’t think you can just label something under a single name. But in order to keep thing simple I will make an exception. The music of Gazpacho was actually a side-step for me in style. One way to call their music is “symphonic rock” I suppose, which wasn’t something I listened to before I was introduced to Gazpacho. Their balance and use of symphonic elements is just brilliant and stunning.
After listening to their music for a couple of years now I can safely say that it’s what I play most of the times while I’m working or have the need to just relax. I say relaxed because compared to my other favorites Porcupine Tree and Marillion – which are quite energetic – most the music of Gazpacho and it’s mood is rather restful. When I think of it I actually think it’s very fitting to my interest in fantasy as well, for example: I think their dreamy music absolutely fits the surreal art of Roger Dean. The great music of Gazpacho often gets me in a wonderful state of mind which truly inspires me a great deal.
Not only do I like their music, I also have much admiration for them and the way they’ve been doing their thing without the support of a label for a very long time. After using the internet to successfully promote themselves for a long time they recently signed themselves to Kscope music, which is my absolute favorite label because it houses most of the bands and artists that I like. So I was thrilled to see them take Gazpacho under their wing as well. (I guess Kscope could make up for an interesting blog post someday too because there’s much more to it which makes it such an awesome label.)
The first time I saw Gazpacho perform live was at the Night of the Progs festival (2010) in Loreley. After that I was an even bigger fan of their music. The best thing about that performance was that they actually released their newest album there live. For more about Gazpacho you should visit the band’s website.
